        Summary
The aim of this study is to capture the specific style of The Years and to discuss the problems that arise with the translation of this novel and this style, most specifically the problems arising when translating the English gerund-participle, which plays an important role in the style of The Years. As, generally, not a marked or uncommon form of the English verb, the gerund-participle would probably not have stood out if not for some central themes in the works of Woolf and her contemporaries. Time, transience, changing points of view and freedom of interpretation are essential in both style and content.
