        Summary
This thesis seeks to provide suggestions for the creation of a small video game that allows for video game translation research to be conducted without the problems that usually occur when using an official game as a research instrument. Using a systematic literature review method, published studies that mention the limitations of using a video game as a research instrument and/or propose research ideas using such materials were collected. Inductive coding of relevant material in these studies resulted in a comprehensive overview of obstacles and potential research avenues, which are synthesised to provide suggestions for the creation of a video game that can overcome the mentioned limitations and allows for reliable and generalisable research into the proposed ideas. This overview of possible game implementations provides a basis for future game development that can help the field of video game translation studies to acquire better data.
