Abstract

This study investigated, using a hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the extent to which young adults are concerned about their financial situation and the influence of psychological factors (individualistic vs. collectivist values and empathy) in relation to the extent of their adherence to COVID-19 measures. A sample of N = 460 young adults aged 18 to 25 years was used. No significant relationship has been found between financial concerns and compliance with COVID-19 measures. Furthermore, a moderate but significant correlation has been found between collectivist values and adherence to COVID-19 measures (p = <.05). Finally, a significant relationship between showing empathy and adhering to the COVID-19 measures (p = <.001) has been found. This study has a number of limitations that must be taken into account, for example, the use of self-report lists only. In follow-up research, other measuring instruments can also be used, such as observations or interviews with family and friends of the participants.
