The Effect of Automatic Stubbing on Measurement of Energy Consumption
Summary
Focus on sustainable software has been increasing the past few years.
There is a huge potential in the optimization of software applications for energy efficiency.
Insight in the energy consumption of software applications is needed for software producing organizations to
optimize their applications for energy efficiency.
In this thesis we propose an extensions to the Stubbed Energy Profiling (StEP) method of Jagroep et al.
by automating the creation of stubs using the capture and replay technique.
A tool is developed which implements the automatic creation of stubs.
The tool and extended method are used in a preliminary experiment and case study to show the feasibility of the approach.
The extended method reduces the manual effort required to apply the StEP method, and enables the measurement of
energy consumption of software applications.
