        Summary
The secretome of immune cells is an important source of information about the response of the human body in different circumstances. The proteins secreted by these cells can tell much about the type of disease and the type of response occurring at a specific moment. This information could lead to new biomarkers for increased specificity about diagnosis, prognosis and therapy design, together with new therapeutic targets. The secretome of immune cells can be examined in different manners, all with their own advantages and disadvantages, resulting in different kinds of information. In this review an overview has been provided of the current knowledge of the secretome of immune cells. A summary is made of the available proteomic studies, examining the proteome and secretome of immune cells.
