The Introduction of Otherism
Summary
This thesis aims to broaden the applicability of Said's concept of Orientalism by reinventing it as Otherism. It does so by taking Louis Althusser's notion of the always already a subject. Furthermore, this thesis specifically shows how this new concept can be applied to the analysis of several works of fiction.
