        Summary
The petroleum industry is increasingly using GIS for mapping and database needs as GIS is very useful for analyses and elucidating spatial relationships. Multi-criteria evaluation (MCE) combines data showing areas best fulfilling criteria. This study uses fuzzy logic MCE with sensitivity analysis to show potential petroleum exploration areas based on inputs within sedimentary basins. The thesis specifically investigates proper methodology. A case study focuses on northern South America. The method is shown as applicable and the output is most sensitive to changes in two data sets. The framework should be constructed with the interpretive nature of the data in mind.
