Intonatiewaarneming van het Nederlands van Nederlandse studenten Japans en Mandarijn-Chinees
Summary
This study focuses on the question whether learning a language that has a (very) different type of intonation from someone's native language has any influence on the way the intonation in this language is perceived. The participants in this intonation perception experiment were Dutch students of Chinese or Japanese. The results of the experiments were compared to the results of a similar study done by M. van Egmond in which the participants were Dutch people who did not study Chinese or Japanese. It can be inferred that studying Chinese or Japanese has had a positive influence on the perception of intonation in one's mother tongue.
