dc.description.abstract | Abstract Socioeconomic status (SES) is strongly associated with cognitive ability during childhood. Little is known however about the specific relationship between SES and child executive functions at preschool age, and if this relationship changes with increasing age. Method: In this study the associations between SES, age, sex and the executive functions ‘attention’, ‘updating’ and ‘inhibition’ are examined. 135 children (mean age: 36.3 months, range: 23.5-43.1 months) were assessed. Child executive functioning was measured using a neuropsychological test battery. Results: There was no significant relation between SES and executive functioning. The age of the child did not moderate the relation between SES and executive functioning. Older children performed better than younger children on ‘attention’ and ‘memory for location’.
