        Summary
After the attacks on the World Trade Centre in 2001, the political tension between the East and the West exacerbated. This thesis investigates whether this new global situation has led to a different approach in Rushdie’s novel writing. What this thesis does is the following: it will follow a critical approach towards Rushdie's novels and see how he utilizes notions such as 'the Other' and West vs. East, and it will investigate whether there is a difference in approach between his pre-9/11 novel, The Satanic Verses, and his post-9/11 novel, The Enchantress of Florence.
