As Through a Glass, Darkly: Abjection and Masculinity in Narrative

Abstract

This thesis works with theories of abjection put forward by Julia Kristeva in "Powers of Horror: an Essay on Abjection," and uses this theory to explore the construction and maintenance of the normative white male in two examples of Victorian adventure fiction.
