Summary
For this study 150 dutch stables were evaluated. At every stable 20 horses had a short clinical exam and their stable and the buildings were evaluated.
In this thesis the accent was on skin conditions and whether there was a significant connection between them and several housing parameters.
Wounds and skin disorders did not appear more often in the various ways of housing or social behaviour. Pressure marks were more often seen when horses were ridden more often. There was a relation between health and hair condition. Cutting of the muzzle did not affect the presence of wounds of skin disorders on the snout. More research has to be done to see if cutting of the hair in the ears has any effect. This study should be repeated in summer to evaluate the effect of culicoides on itching of the manes and tail.
