Abstract

In this thesis, the role of the Provinciaal Utrechts Genootschap (PUG) in the excavations in Vechten between 1892 and 1894 will be analysed. Their influence on the conclusions drawn during the project, as well as their influence on the progression of Limes-research in the province of Utrecht will be discussed. External factors, like the National Museum of Antiquities, as well as the influences of German archaeology at the time will be introduced, in order to demonstrate the role the PUG had in influencing the development of Limes-research as a result of the conclusions drawn out of the excavations in Vechten between 1892 and 1894.
