The North-South perspectives on reducing GHG emissions from deforestation in Colombia: A clash of Visions? A constructivist analysis on Colombia's leadership in sustainable development and North-South cooperation to reduce deforestation in the Colombian Amazon.
Summary
[""This thesis constitutes a constructivist analysis of how Colombia's conservation narrative, exemplified by its active role in the 2030 Agenda, has influenced the Joint Declaration of Intent to reduce GHG emissions from deforestation in the Colombian Amazon. In this context, there has been a debate on rainforest management. The Global North conceives tropical forests as global commons, arguing that what happens to them affects everyone, whereas the South believes that the use of natural resources belongs to each sovereign country framed in a sustainable development vision. In this sense, this paper employs document analysis methodology to interpret primary and secondary sources to better understand perspectives in forest management. Finally, the JDI illustrates how apparent discrepancies are diluted by market incentives and North-South cooperation helped accommodate Colombia's interests in a narrative of forest conservation aligned with economic growth.""]
