Abstract

This paper focuses on the main contemporary powers that dominate and shape our world. It will become clear that, in response to American dominance, rivaling nations use economic- and political power in order to serve their own intentions and to undermine America’s position. Can the fast rising China challenge American hegemony? Or perhaps the European Union, wealthy and hungry for respect, will take on the role of hegemon. And what influence can America’s former nemesis Russia still exert? In short, what is the future of America as no.1 superpower?
