Private and Public Reproductive Health Care: a Widening Gap
Summary
This thesis presents the final work of my Master degree in International Development Studies. This thesis presents the research that is done in South Africa from February to June 2009 and deals with the supply, accessibility and utilization of reproductive health care with a special focus on Mother-To-Child Transmission of HIV.
During research it became evident that there is a big contrast between private and public health care. Access is determined whether someone has a medical aid scheme or not. Since there are big income differences among different ethnicities; this results in segregation.
