        Summary
Introduction. For the last few years, more children in the Netherlands go to a type of childcare. High quality childcare is important since it has a positive influence on children’s development, especially for children from low SES families. Therefore, this quantitative research focuses on the relation between low SES and process quality of childcare, focused on pre-kindergarten and childminder care. Method. Using a dataset gathered by the National Early Childhood Education and Care Quality Monitoring during research in 2017, 2018 and 2019, this relation has been analysed. A sample of 91 prekindergartens and 85 childminders was used for this research. Multiple correlation and HMRA analyses were conducted. Negative relations were expected between process quality and low SES. These were expected to be larger for pre-kindergarten. Results. Weak, positive correlations were found in pre-kindergarten and weak, negative correlations were found in childminder care. These were all non significant. A non significant effect was found for the type of childcare as well. Conclusion. The conclusion can be made that there were no significant results, nor significant differences between pre-kindergarten and childminder care in their relation between low SES and process quality. Limitations were mainly focused on the way the data was gathered and that some of the assumptions were violated. Therefore the results are to be interpreted with caution. Further research is necessary to eventually close the gap between children with a low and a high SES background.
