The main goal of this thesis is to get an insight in the finite-dimensional irreducible complex representations of the special unitary group of order two. This symmetry group plays a fundamental role in physics in various ways. The group together with the unitary group of order one and the special unitary group of order three gives insight in the three fundamental forces and their interactions; namely the electromagnetic force, the weak force and lastly the strong force. The main result of this thesis is that the finite-dimensional irreducible complex representations of the special unitary group of order two can be indexed, up to isomorphism, by a non-negative integer m.
