De Nederlandse passiefschaal

Abstract

This thesis deals with the following question: “What is the function of the different Dutch passives, can they be used randomly or do they have semantic differences?” Analysis of the most prototypical Dutch passive, the worden-passive, made it possible to create a passive-scale. By means of the passive-scale other Dutch passives, the zijn-passive, krijgen-passive and the raken-passive, have been analysed and tested. Subsequently the analysed passives were put into the scale created based on the worden-passive. The appreciation of the aspects of the passive-scale were all rated in a different manner by the various Dutch passives. It can be concluded that this means that the passives all have a different meaning and cannot be used randomly. The Dutch passive-scale that has been created is a basic scale and can be expanded by further research.
