Abstract

This thesis reads the novel Vita (2003) by Melania Mazzucco about Italian emigration to New York in a contemporary perspective. It argues that by remembering the emigration past, this text responds to the current (im)migration debate in Italy. Therefore, it applies cultural memory theories and Graziella Parati’s concept of ‘talking back’.
