dc.description.abstract | This study examines the psychometric quality of the Test Battery for Executive Attention in preschoolers with an age of 3-6 years (TEAK) (Wijnroks, 2015). The test-retest reliability, construct validity and predictive validity of the test battery are discussed. The TEAK, consisting of the tasks sustained attention, selective visual attention, counter-pointing and Go/No-Go, was administered to a sample of 40 typically developing preschoolers. There is a re-test conducted with 20 of these children. The results show that the test-retest reliability of the tasks sustained attention, selective visual attention and Go/No-Go is high. While the test-retest reliability of the counter-pointing task is low. In order to determine the construct validity a confirmatory factor analysis was used. The results show a two-factor model: factor 1 consisting of the tasks sustained attention, selective visual attention and the Go/No-Go task and the second factor consisting of the counter-pointing task. In addition to the administration of the test battery, the teachers of the children have completed the Dutch version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire 4-17 (SDQ) to determine the predictive validity. The results show that there is a positive significant medium consistency between the sustained attention task and the hyperactivity and inattentive subscale of the SDQ. Such a consistency is also found for the counter-pointing task. The Go/No-Go task and the selective attention task are both not significant with a small consistency. A follow-up study is recommended and adjustments should be made to increase the validity and reliability of the test battery. | |
