The abundance of Argon in Tycho's supernova remnant as an indicator of the double-detonation scenario
Summary
Abstract An analysis of the Argon concentration in SNR-1572, 'Tycho' has been performed. Based on a Principal Component Analysis (PCA), spectra of regions with high and low argon concentration were taken. I find that the PCA is good indicator of argon presence, and that there are three general regions of argon abundance, all are found near the rim of the remnant, providing evidence for a double detonation. Argon abundances of several orders of magnitude above solar are found, and I conclude that Tycho's SNR is a candidate for the double-detonation scenario.
