        Summary
Throughout this thesis, I explore a number of barriers that prevent Mexican women from achieving their full participation in agricultural activities mainly due to policies that impose gender stereotypes. Central to this research is the scholarship and literature review of the feminization of poverty thesis in Mexico. This project is guided by the strong belief that through the fair incursion of Mexican women in rural households to the self-employed agricultural sector, women can advance in their personal and professional lives, and become agents of economic change within their families and communities, helping alleviate the poverty Mexico has been dragging for the past couple of decades.
