        Summary
In this thesis, a comparison is made between the implementation of intelligence led policing in the UK and the Netherlands. While police forces in both countries have a very different history and structure, a comparison shows that both have to cope with high expectations that are not met, even when they have succeeded in establishing professional intelligence organizations. The reason for this is that intelligence led policing is based upon intelligence processes, while within the police organizations the tasks and expextations for the branches responsible for those processes extend to everything that has to do with information and data, and not just intelligence. This means that the value of intelligence is understood in very different ways between those who work in intelligence, police management and operational staff.
