Where Are The Lesbians? A Contested Political Existence in the Spanish Arena
Summary
This essay accounts for the ways in which the lesbian subject is otherized in patriarchal societies. Through a deep analysis of the patriarchal concept of woman and an explanation of the role played by lesbians within this formation, I argue for an expansion of political, feminist, and queer theories in order to include the distinct lesbian subject. The Spanish case is utilized as an example of the ways in which politics is (not) representative of lesbians identities, and it helps drawing on the different oppressions lesbians suffer within the political arena.
