        Summary
In this study the relation between exploration and aspects of the cognitive development is examined among twelve 9-month-old infants. The cognitive aspects chosen in this study are object permanence and spatial cognition as measured by an A-not-B task. The exploration factors are constructed with parent reports in a Dutch Questionnaire on Motor Experiences (2007). In this questionnaire the exploration subtypes used are: exploration through space, visual exploration and manual exploration of objects. The hypothesized correlation between exploration scales and the performance on the A-not-B test, could not been found. The findings are not similar to those of previous studies. But there are differences in design and in size of samples as well. However, the literature study gives a broad view on existing studies of exploration and it is used to show that to gain a greater understanding in exploration and the early motor and cognitive development, further development of research strategies and methods is needed.
