Identifying Myth - The korai of the Erechtheion

Abstract

In my thesis, I have 'read' the six maiden statues of the Erechtheion's South Porch. Instead of looking at them in the familiar way of 'what' they are, I have looked at them with the question in mind 'who' they are. The signs the statues themselves already give, which are enhanced by those of the temple, lead the 'reader' towards a mythological interpretation.
