        Summary
The aim of this research is to investigate whether there is a relationship between parenting stress and the use of media as a babysitter and how this is related to the media use of 3-6 year old children. The use of media as a babysitter consists of two types of use: the use of media as a babysitter for practical reasons and the use of media as a babysitter for emotional reasons. The data was collected by means of an online questionnaire among 113 parents (108 mothers and 5 fathers). The results show that parenting stress is significantly related to the use of media as a babysitter for practical reasons and also related to the use of media as a babysitter for emotional reasons. This means that parents who experience more parenting stress, more often use media as a babysitter for practical reasons and more often use media as a babysitter for emotional reasons. Furthermore, the results show that both the use of media as a babysitter for practical reasons as the use of media as a babysitter for emotional reasons, is not related to the use of media by children. Finally the results show that the indirect relationship between parenting stress and the media use of children, through the use of media as a babysitter for both practical reasons as media use as a babysitter for emotional reasons, is not significant.
