        Summary
        This thesis studies the causes for the malfunctioning of the referral system in Fort Portal, Uganda. Analysis of the prevailing hierarchies which influence the functionality of the referral system shows the position of women in relation to men and in relation to health workers. By making a Causal Loop Diagram this thesis analysis the interconnected variables which determine the referral system's functionality and how this influences the level of quality care delivered to the mother.
