        Summary
This essay investigated the link between optimism, health, work engagement and job performance. Job performance was split in task performance and contextual performance. The data were collected through the internet site www.psychologiemagazine.nl, which had a survey on their site from 29 January 2004 until 14 December 2007. There was a total of 4770 participants consisting of 2972 men and 1798 women with an average age of 40,33. The results showed that optimism and health have an influence on job performance. Work engagement was a partial mediator for optimism and task- and contextual performance. Also for health and task performance, work engagement was a partial mediator. Work engagement was a full mediator for the relationship between health and contextual performance.
