Executive functioning and developmental dyslexia: Comparing three-year-old children with low familial risk and high familial risk of dyslexia.
Summary
This study compared the language proficiency and executive functioning of three-year-old children
with high (N = 72) and low (N = 427) familial risk of developmental dyslexia. The language tests
measured phoneme identification, vocabulary, non-word repletion and grammar. For executive
functioning, tasks examining visual attention, inhibition and visuo-spatial working memory were
used. Results did not show any significant differences between the groups on any of the tasks. This
study was evaluated in order to formulate suggestions for future research on family risk.
