Assessing receptive multi-word units in Dutch ESL secondary school pupils
Summary
This thesis focuses on ESL assessment of Dutch secondary school pupils. A test was based on multi-word units (MWUs) from the field of phraseology and was compared to other existing tests (Paul Nation's Levels Test and van Mourik's Associates Test). It turns out that these tests are capable of measuring vocabulary knowledge, but that a test based on multi-word units is not a more efficient or a better indicator of vocabulary knowledge.
