Beef and milk: Emission intensities of intensive and extensive production system on regional and global level in 2010
Summary
AFOLU commodities ranging from rice and maize to beef and round wood, have a large impact on the environment and emit a great amount of GHG, both during their land preparation (e.g. deforestation), production and post-production (e.g. residue burning) stages. The emissions from beef and cow milk constitute a large part (22.6% in 2010) of the AFOLU emissions. The aim of the internship project was to develop a methodology for emission allocation and calculate the emission intensities of the commodities beef and cow milk on a regional and global level for the year 2010. The system boundary is farm-gate to farm-gate, meaning all on-farm CH4 and N2O (direct and indirect) emissions from livestock are taken into account.
