        Summary
By analyzing the financial accounts of 63 Reformed poor funds (deaconries), located in villages all around the 18th century Dutch Republic, this thesis describes the investment behavior of rural deaconries and aims to answer the question if rural deaconries in the Dutch Republic participated in financial markets to secure their wealth in financial assets. In short, should the Financial Revolution, with its highly developed securities' markets, be seen as an urban phenomenon or did it actually reach the Dutch countryside?
