        Summary
This thesis explores the role the organization called the Sons of Liberty played in the initial stages of the conception of American independence. Particularly the role of words and the shift in their meaning during the early stages of the American Revolution are reviewed and put into perspective as the words that shaped the initial resistance to British Imperial rule change and become symbols of liberty and freedom during the Revolutionary War.
