On the brink of revolution: The revolutionary events of 1848 in Sweden and The Netherlands.
Summary
The thesis looks into the question why some countries encountered far less violence during the 1848 revolution than others. Sweden and The Netherlands are compared to the events of other European countries. A special attention had to be given to the role of both Kings Willem II of The Netherlands, and Oscar I of Sweden. This also shows that a purely structural method of research will be insufficient regarding revolutions.
