        Summary
        The aim is to study the portrayal of female characters in science fiction in light of the growing emancipation of women today. By looking into theory on female characters and their portrayals and roles in the genre and comparing three science fiction novels: Bearing an Hourglass by Pierce Anthony, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Ender's Game and Bearing an Hourglass represent the traditional science fiction story with its traditional portrayal of women. The Hunger Games is recent and shows the improval of the portrayal of its female characters.
