Know the ropes: translating ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016

Abstract

This thesis investigates translation strategies and choices for technical texts for children. Not only is it a translation of the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing (RSS), but also an adaptation for children from 10 to 12 years old. Since the RSS has characteristics of a legal text, the text may be incomprehensible for children without the adaptation strategies. The adaptation and translation strategies are all aimed to make the text comprehensible for children and teach the children the beginnings of competitive sailing. The learning processes of children are also examined in the analysis.
