"Não traduzo um poema mas um poeta": Poética tradutória externa de August Willemsen
Summary
The external translation poetics of the Dutch translator August Willemsen are studied in this MA thesis. This research takes place in the subarea of translation archeology suggested by Anthony Pym. Based on a bibliographic research of Willemsen's work, his commentaries about translating and translation are explored from a historical perspective in order to discover his translation poetics as well as to find out whether they underwent changes in the course of time. The results show five characteristics in Willemsen's way of thinking about translation. Moreover two important turning points in his translation poetics have emerged which mark the three phases of his translational development. Finally, Willemsen's translation poetics are found to be connected with those of Schleiermacher, but show little resemblance with de ideas and concepts of contemporary Dutch translators Dolf Verspoor and Pé Hawinkels.
