        Summary
One of the standards developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium is the Web Processing Service (WPS) which allows for remote processing. WPS has not been implemented in many projects yet but is a promising standard which can also be applied outside the field of GI. At Deltares two test cases were set up to find out the working and applicability of the standard for relevant projects. It was found that the standard can be applied in many kinds of services and is also usable for wrapping existing services. It is suggested to use process coupling and/or asynchronous processing to make services more dynamic. It is also suggested to add a ‘stop’ request to stop a process running. Overall it can be said that WPS is a promising standard that can be applied in many fields of work and allows for great interoperability.
