        Summary
This thesis paper focuses on the 1830 Belgian Revolt. It shows that, while structural differences between the northern and southern parts of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands existed, these underlying causes were by themselves not enough to 'launch' the Belgian Revolt of 1830. Instead, this paper aims to show that coincidence and unforeseen events played a major role in the creation and escalation of the Belgian Revolt.
