The options of economic interference in Natura 2000 areas: Recreation in the Wadden Sea
Summary
Due to the ongoing economic crisis, less money might be available for nature conservation. Therefore, it is in the line of expectations that there will be more economic development in the protected nature areas. This study tries to identify the rack and space in Natura 2000 and other nature conservation regimes in the Dutch Wadden Sea. An overview was made of the different development plans concerning the Wadden Sea and the different forms of recreation that are present in the Wadden Sea. By comparing the impact of different recreation types and the present nature conservation status of habitats, non-avian and avian species, an reconnaissance of the different options for recreation was made to determine if and how the rack and space in the legislation of Natura 2000 could be filled with changes in recreation.
