        Summary
The objective of this thesis is to examine which specific role the media can have in creating identities and groups in a debate. Case study is the debate about the young asylum seeker Mauro that took place in the autumn of 2011. With the use of the discourse analysis method from Norman Fairclough television broadcasts are analyzed. Concepts like identity politics, a transformed media landscape and framing are taken into account in this research. In a broader view this thesis concerns the power relations between politics and media and the effects these structures have on the view on the social world of citizens.
