dc.description.abstractChildren aged from 2 to 3.5 years go through an important motor development. These children depend on their parents because of their basic needs, parenting has been identified as a primary factor influencing children's development. In this research, the structure, warmth and stimulation in parenting behaviour has been studied. In addition, the difference between first and later borns was studied. The sample consisted 170 healthy children aged 2 to 3.5 years. Motor development was measured by the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-third edition-NL. The parenting behaviour was measured by the Comprehensive Early Childhood Parenting Questionnaire. The sample was divided into first and later borns. Gender and mother's education are included as covariats. A negative correlation was found between structure in parenting behaviour and motor development. No correlation was found between warmth and stimulation in parenting behaviour and motor development. In addition, a difference in gender has been found in all three parenting behaviours, as a result of which girls at this age have a better motor development than boys. This means there is no difference in motor development when parents show more warmth or stimulation in parenting behaviour and there is no difference between first and later borns in motor development.
