dc.description.abstractQualitative research about career stages of independent professionals (in Dutch: zzp'ers) in the Dutch health care industry, specifically the 'thuiszorg'. Focus is on the motivations to become an independent professional, experiences as independent professional and perspectives for both the future of their career and their enterprise. The qualitative research is combined with a survey among a broader group of Dutch independent professionals to get a better insight which results are related to independent professionals as a whole and which results are related to independent professionals in the health care industry, specifically 'thuiszorg'. Independent professionals are challenged in combining different tasks and roles, have multiple reasons to become a independent professional and have a very positive expectations of their future. Despite their positive expectations the independent professionals in the 'thuiszorg' are confronted with significant changes in their context and their future as independent professionals is at stake.
