dc.description.abstractThis thesis deals with the consequences of modernity on Balkan Beats music in Berlin. In the age of modernity our world has become more insecure and lifestyle choices are proliferating. Migration, juxtaposed with mass-media has made the world increasingly connected. Processes of identification have become more complex. Balkan Beats is disembedded and re-embedded in numerous ways. In this thesis different meanings that are given to Balkan Beats by Berliners, both migrants and non-migrants, are explored.
