The aim of this study was to find out what intentions and beneficial factors and barriers influence parent involvement in health (activity and nutrition) activities at school. In order to reach this aim a qualitative determinants analysis was completed. 12 parents and 5 teachers were in-depth interviewed for this study. The results showed that parents make no difference between participating in health activities or other activities. Parents say they think health is important and should be paid attention to in school. Teachers agree with this, but they think health doesn’t have priority over other subjects such as nature. Parents and teachers identified work and the time when the activity takes place as the biggest barriers. They also experience a few beneficial factors, it is important that the school sends a positive message to the parents, the activities need to be fun and stimulating for the parents and the atmosphere in school needs to be open so that parent feel welcome. It was recommended that school needs to decide the way to ask parents to participate in school. Personal communication works the best, but also takes a lot of time. It is also important that school discovers at what times most parents are available to participate and organize the activities at those times. And finally school needs to take advantage of the beneficial factors.
