Overweight rates of VMBO students in the Netherlands are rising. Overweight results from a complex interaction between individual, environmental and behavioural factors. The purpose of this article was to determine to what extent behavioural factors from the ASE Model play a role in the explanation of exercise- and nutrition behaviour in 12-15 year old adolescents in order to enhance the CoolFit intervention from The Netherlands Institute for Health Promotion NIGZ. In this study data are obtained from 240 students through questionnaires and from 32 students through focusgroup interviews and individual interviews. The findings from these study show that at least fifty percent of the VMBO students has breakfast every day, but not even half of the students reaches the Fitnorm. The VMBO students know broadly what healthy exercise- and nutrition behaviour is and that their behaviour especially is influenced by their parents instead of their friends. Recommendations for enhancing the CoolFit intervention are presented.
