In the 1990s, the film Industry of Indonesia plummeted almost to a standstill. After the fall of president Suharto in 1998, the number of film productions started to increase again. It went from a mere 15 productions in 2003 to over 90 productions in 2008. This thesis explores the changes that have affected the position of the Indonesian film world, locally in the period after the Reform. Furthermore it looks at the factors that caused the increase of Indonesian productions after the Reform and focuses on the period between 2003 and 2009.
