| dc.description.abstract | Abstract Aim: The aim of this study is to find objective criteria for multiproblem families and to answer the main question, namely “Is there a difference in parenting aspects between multiproblem families and normative families and is there correlation with psychopathology with the parents or their child?”. Parenting is divided in consistency, responsiveness, positive parenting, and harsh discipline. Method: Parents and children of multiproblem families, as well as normative families. Questionnaires, which are composed of several parts, were filled out. Results: Parents as well as children in multiproblem families seem to have more psychological problems, compared to normative families. Parents in multiproblem families appear to have more problems coping with parenting, compared to normative families. The relation between psychopathology and parenting has only been found significant on the aspects of consistency, responsivity and harsh discipline. Occasionally, there is a difference between parents and children report. Conclusion: These results indicate that multiproblem families indeed have more problems concerning the four parenting aspects and show more psychopathology. More research is needed. | |
